Charges & items for sale

Please note we are currently unable to handle cash at Queen Square Library, visit the website for information about how to pay (scroll down to the section 'How do I pay my library fines and fees?').

Overdue & Lost book charges

Registered users may borrow Queen Square Library books for 1 week or 8 weeks. The charges for late return or lost books are as follows.

  • Standard loan item (8 weeks) - 20p per day.
  • Short loan item (1 week) - 30p per day.
  • Lost or damaged item (still in print) - full replacement cost for each book for which an invoice is raised.
  • Lost or damaged (out of print) - £70 or full replacement costs (whichever is greater) for each book for which an invoice is raised.

Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loan charges

If UCL Library Services does not hold an item, registered library users can ask us to obtain it from another library. There may be a charge for this service - please contact us for further information. Where a fee is payable, prices vary depending on the urgency of the request and the type of material requested. Please note that this service is restricted to eligible users, check our website for details of who can use the Queen Square Library.

Visitor access to the library

Please see our website for details of who can use the Queen Square Library. Visitor who are not eligible to join as  full members may be able to pay a fee for temporary membership (from one day up to a year). Please note that this does not allow borrowing but does include access to the in-library Explore Access Points (EAPs) which can be used to access items from UCL's online collections, where publisher licenses allow it. Books and other items for sale

Queen Square: A History of the National Hospital and its Institute of Neurology a definitive history of both The National Hospital and the Institute from 1860 to 1997, authored by Simon Shorvon, Alastair Compston, Andrew Lees, Michael Clark, and Martin Rossor. The book is over 550 pages in length and includes over 120 photos and images, along with biographies of many former members of staff.

Available to purchase online with all proceeds of sales going to the National Brain AppealAugust 2022 update: the book now sells for £35 (plus postage or free collection).

postcards
Postcards: we have a set of five postcards featuring images from Queen Square Archives. Sold in Queen Square Library in aid of the National Brain Appeal.

Prints: we also have a small supply of a large print of Queen Square in 1787 and A4 size prints of the Albany Wing in the 1880s. Sold in Queen Square Library in aid of the National Brain Appeal.
